What is AdParlor?
AdParlor is an advertising network designed specifically for social networking sites.
We deliver millions of impressions daily on custom application on all six major social networking sites
- facebook, myspace, hi5, bebo, orkut, and friendster. We connect developers looking to monetize their applications
with advertisers looking for a targeted way to reach social networking users. We are an incorporated
company in Canada under the name 'AdParlor Inc.'
How are impressions defined?
An impression is counted every time an ad is loaded on a page. If a user opens a
page with an ad, surfs to another page, and then returns to that original page,
another impression will be counted.
How are clicks defined and what is CTR?
A click is defined anytime a user actually clicks on an advertisement. Click Through
Rate (CTR) is the industry standard way of measuring how effective an advertisement
is. It is obtained by dividing the number of clicks by the number of impressions.
In the social networking world, a CTR over 0.04% is considered to be doing well.
What are these different cost models (CPM, CPC, CPA)?
Cost per Mille
(CPM) for an advertiser is the cost for every 1000 impressions
received. For a publisher, it is the amount earned for every 1000 impressions delivered.
Cost per Click
(CPC) for an advertiser is the cost for every click received.
For a publisher, it is the amount earned for every click received. Cost per Acquisition
(CPA) is available to advertisers to represent how much they are charged
for every acquisition. In the context of social networking applications, this translates
to a user install. We currently offer CPA campaigns only for myspace application
developers
How do I begin to show AdParlor ads?
Integrating AdParlor ads is very simple. Our web site is completely self serve and
you can be up and running within minutes. Simply register on our site by entering
in an e-mail address and creating a password. Then click on the big 'Add Application'
button - enter the name of your app and choose the network your application is built
on. Finally, click 'Get HTML Code' and make your selections to retrieve the necessary
code.
Why do you want me to pass in age and gender in the query string?
This information is used for targeting purposes. By passing us in this information,
we are able to target the ads that we serve your application users. This results
in a higher click through rate on the ads that you serve and hence a higher payout
for you. We adhere strictly to the respective social networking sites policies and
do not store any of this information - it is used only at run time.
Why are you asking me for my secret key when I add my facebook application?
We are asking for your Facebook Secret Key ONLY in order to retrieve the demographic
information of users of your app. We adhere strictly to facebook policies and do
not store any of this information - it is used only at run time for ad targeting
purposes. Providing us with the secret key is optional, but it will allow us to
serve targeted ads to your users - resulting in a higher CTR and hence a higher
eCPM. Your secret key is encrypted and stored in our database for your protection.
If you are not comfortable providing your secret key, you also have the option of
passing in demographic information via the querystring.
I have added code to my site, and have many impressions logged but
NO clicks yet. Why?
Our system logs impressions and clicks in real time. One of the primary reasons
why clicks may not be logged, is because you are not passing in the viewerid (the
id of the social networking user on your app) in the query string. When integrating
our code, please read the comments carefully as it explains if and how to do this.
Unfortunately, we cannot log clicks without the viewerid as part of our fraud detection
system. If you feel that there is actually a mistake, or have any questions or concerns,
please e-mail us at
publishersupport@adparlor.com
and we will get back to you as soon as posible.
How can I get more traffic to my application?
There are many ways to attract users to add your application. One great way is to
use AdParlor as an advertiser. Create an advertisement by providing us with some
information and automatically have your balance go towards advertising your own
application. This becomes a link exchange - where as you promote other applications,
they will be promoting you.
What is the purpose of Tags?
It is in your benefit to enter in accurate tags that describe your application.
This will allow us to target the ads we place on your site based on those tags proving
more relevant ads and therefore creating a higher click through rate and higher
revenues for you.
How much money can I make?
The answer to this question varies based on several factors. The most important
factor in determining how much you can make is the number of quality ad impressions
you can deliver. Quantity (the number of active users of your application) is obviously
important, but so is the Quality. Quality can be increased by placing AdParlor ads
prominently on the application.
When and how do I get paid?
When you have reached a balance of at least $20, you can request to be paid. Within
three business days, usually sooner, we will pay you the balance through PayPal.
For those publishers requesting a payout of over $1000, we can wire transfer the
balance directly to your account for a flat rate - saving you the PayPal % based
fees.
I have created an advertisement but it doesn't seem like it is being
served, Why?
This is unusual. As long as an advertisement is active, and you have a sufficiently
positive balance, it should begin to be served right away. If you feel that the
system is not working correctly, please e-mail us at
advertisersupport@adparlor.com and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
Where will my ad be shown and how much does it cost?
When advertising with AdParlor, you can be sure that your ad will receive prime
placement throughout social networking sites. As opposed to displaying ads in 'standard' spaces
that most users tend to ignore, we place your ad on custom applications across the six major social networking sites -
facebook, myspace, hi5, bebo, orkut, and friendster. For those advertising their social networking
applications, we have two basic cost models – CPM and CPC. Selecting the CPM cost
model means that you will be charged $1 for every 1000 impressions shown throughout
our network. Selecting the CPC cost model means that you will be charged 14¢ for
every click received on your ad.
For those advertising an external web site, please
e-mail us at advertisersupport@adparlor.com
for rates.
Why advertise with AdParlor instead of going directly to myspace
or facebook?
The challenge with advertising directly with myspace and facebook – and in fact
most major online portals – is that users are accustomed to ignoring those ads.
Facebook ads always appear on the left hand column. Myspace ads always appear in
the top right corner. End users know that there will be an ad in that space, and
in fact don’t even look in that direction. It is completely blocked out. When advertising
with AdParlor, your ad will appear through many different custom applications. The
placement will be different in each case, and the colors may even be customized
to blend in with the rest of the application. Your ad will be accepted by the user
and receive a high click through rate.
Can I target my ad?
Yes! That is one of the primary advantages of advertising within social networking
sites. You can target your ad based on gender, age, and location. You are no longer
restricted to pre- defined age groups. You can specify both the minimum and maximum
age that you would like to reach. In terms of location, you can target your advertisement
as broad or as specific as you would like – by Country, State/Province, and/or City
What is the purpose of Tags?
It is in your benefit to include accurate tags that accurately describe what you
are advertising. We will use this information to ensure that your ad gets served
on social networking applications that are relevant to your ad increasing your click
through rate and the effectiveness of your advertising campaign.
